FIT Asia is the Asian Regional Centre of the International Federation of Translators (FIT), established to strengthen collaboration, professional development, and representation for translators, interpreters, and terminologists across Asia. Officially launched on 20 January 2024 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, FIT Asia builds on the strong foundation of the Asia-Pacific Translation and Interpreting Forum (APTIF), bringing together a diverse network of professional associations in the region.
As one of FIT’s regional centres—alongside FIT Europe, FIT North America, FIT Latin America, and FIT Africa—FIT Asia operates with a clear mission grounded in professional, cultural, and academic objectives aligned with FIT’s bylaws and international standards. Its creation marks a significant milestone in the development of the language professions in Asia, addressing long-standing needs for regional coordination and representation.
FIT Asia serves as a platform for cooperation among member associations, fostering exchange in key areas such as skills development, training, sustainable professional practices, and future-oriented innovation. Through its initiatives, it aims to elevate the profile of translators, interpreters, and terminologists, both within the region and on the global stage.
By promoting collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and professional standards, FIT Asia plays a vital role in advancing the language services profession across Asia—supporting its members while contributing to the broader international community.
